About Computer Applications for the 21st Century
Computer Literacy: Giving Students a Competitive Edge
Brockton High School’s Computer Applications course is designed with intention to provide incoming freshmen and upperclassmen, with the technological readiness that will enable them to be successful academically and professionally. Through the offering of a digital literacy curriculum focused on the MS Office Package, Office 365, various computer applications and understanding of the underlying navigational concepts to assist them with educational success that incorporates the use of technology to support their lifelong learning goals.
The digital literacy skills acquired will enable Brockton High School students to demonstrate their technological proficiency in creating well-designed projects and assignments across the curriculum in order to present information in an academically professional manner. These will furthermore develop the student’s technological skills needed to become career ready and increase their marketability in the workplace, beyond the classroom. The skills acquired stem far beyond curriculum requirements, as the skills established also provide our students with the preparedness to navigate the Massachusetts PARCC Assessment and Readiness Exam administered by the State of Massachusetts, allowing Brockton students a competitive edge with the click of a mouse.
This Computer Applications course thoughtfully incorporates both the Business & Consumer Services Occupational Cluster Business Technology Framework, focusing on Standard 6 as well as the 2016 Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) Curriculum Framework.
