Course Overview:
In this session, Maximizing Microsoft Word, we will design a teacher/parent newsletter. Using a classroom newsletter will increase parent/student/teacher communication. Keeping parents and students informed about the course offered & classroom expectations. This lesson is similar to an assessment piece for the Word Processing portion of Computer Applications for the 21st Century, a course offered to incoming ninth graders here at Brockton High School.
Once completed, this newsletter can be printed and disseminated or shared electronically; via email or as a post on a teacher webpage. Each of which is form of evidence towards Standard III: Family & Communication Engagement Standard of Education Evaluation. Specifically noting these categories of the Standard:

- Communication with families via phone calls, emails, meetings
Skills:
- Using a newsletter format (two column) rather than a two column table
- Setting margins and spacing for maximum formatting
- Using & inserting columns and tables
- Using and formatting with drawing tools (borders/dividers)
- Inserting & formatting images or clip art
- Inserting a bullet symbol to separate text
- Changing bullet symbols characters
- Adjusting indents of bulleted lists (change list levels)
- Inserting shapes and WordArt
- Inserting Hyperlinks (If time permits.) – Useful for electronic methods of sharing.
- Saving as a PDF (If time permits.) – Useful for electronic methods of sharing & to prevent editing
